What services does Dr. Dannette Napier offer?

Dr. Napier provides telemedicine care for depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, OCD, PMDD, trauma-related conditions, and other mental health conditions on a case-by-case basis. She offers medication management and supportive therapy, partnering with her patients to optimize their mental health utilizing a bio-psycho-social approach, and with the mind-body-spirit connection in mind. She appreciates that patients are unique in their individual values, life struggles, and wellness goals.

What is a psychiatrist, and is it the same as a psychologist, or a therapist?

Unlike a psychologist or therapist, a psychiatrist is a physician (DO or MD) who has completed an undergraduate college degree and then gone on to complete four years of medical school. After that, they complete another four years of medical residency, where they receive additional training in general medicine, neurology, and psychiatry, with a primary focus on the latter. Psychiatry specializes in how different neurochemicals, medical conditions, and medications can impact mental health and behavior. Because mental health is so complex, psychiatrists also receive training in some types of psychotherapy during their medical residency, to be able to incorporate those behavioral elements into their care, for a more comprehensive and efficacious treatment approach. Commonly, psychiatrists will refer patients to a psychologist (often a PhD), or a therapist (often a LSCW), for types of psychological testing, more dedicated therapy sessions, or a specific type of therapy.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can book an appointment by visiting our website and submitting a contact request with your information. Our practice manager will contact you to fill out the necessary paperwork and schedule your appointment. There is the option to book an initial appointment through the link on the home page of this website, but the necessary paperwork will still need to be filled out for the appointment to take place. If the initial patient information paperwork has not been filled out and submitted ahead of time, the appointment will likely be rescheduled. Please follow the instructions in the ‘welcome form’ when booking the initial appointment through the link on the home page.

Is telemedicine right for me?

Telemedicine is a convenient and effective option for adults seeking compassionate, expert mental health care. It allows for the individual to receive psychiatric care in the comfort of their own environment, where they may feel more at ease sharing and discussing sensitive topics. For others, given schedule or transportation limitations, it may afford the opportunity to receive care they otherwise may not have had.

Please note though, telepsychiatry services are not the best option for everyone. Some psychiatric conditions require a higher level of care. Patients with these conditions are best served by an in-person psychiatric practice with more staff and on-site services, such as walk-in services and nursing support staff. If this is found to be the case for you either through the initial intake forms or during an evaluation, Dr. Napier will advise you on the best next steps for establishing with a practice that is best for your individual needs.

How often will I have appointments?

For the well-being of the patient and safe prescribing practices, patients will need to be seen for a follow-up appointment at least once every three months to remain a member of this practice. Initially, as we are working together to get an initial, effective treatment plan in place and optimized, appointments will be closer together. Some patients will need a follow-up appointment every 2-4 weeks, while others may only need one every 1-2 months. As your symptoms become better managed, and your treatment plan is established and going well, appointments can be spread out to once every 3 months. Of course, if patients prefer to continue with more frequent appointments, we will very gladly see them more often as the schedule allows. We cannot continue to safely prescribe for patients who do not have follow-up appointments. Patients who fall out of care, and who do not continue to have follow-up appointments, will be discharged from the practice and will receive a discharge letter to the address on file with related instructions.

Do you accept insurance & can I pay out-of-pocket?

Please Reference our “services” page to see if your insurance is accepted. You can always contact your insurance company to confirm that mental health benefits are covered by your plan. We can also provide you with an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if this practice is considered out-of-network (OON) for you. For insurance patients, we will connect you to Headway, the company we are working with who will be processing the insurance claims for our patients using insurance. For our patients considered ‘cash-pay’, we have partnered with a reputable credit card payment processing company/platform that securely processes credit card payments.
